{"id":193347,"date":"2008-12-21T17:49:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-21T22:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/12\/21\/because-you-should-never-pass-up-an-opportunity-to-show-talking-heads-videos\/"},"modified":"2008-12-21T17:49:00","modified_gmt":"2008-12-21T22:49:00","slug":"because-you-should-never-pass-up-an-opportunity-to-show-talking-heads-videos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/12\/21\/because-you-should-never-pass-up-an-opportunity-to-show-talking-heads-videos\/","title":{"rendered":"Because You Should Never Pass Up an Opportunity to Show Talking Heads Videos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, I come across this story describing how Bush&#8217;s push for home ownership, aka the &#8220;Ownership Society,&#8221; was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iht.com\/articles\/2008\/12\/21\/business\/admin.php\">responsible in part for the housing crash<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I tend to agree with the Shrill One, when he says that Bush&#8217;s support of home ownership had the same role in the housing bubble as his support for marital fidelity did in the overall rate of adultery in the USA, and that his most significant contribution was in <a href=\"http:\/\/krugman.blogs.nytimes.com\/2008\/12\/21\/the-bushies-and-the-bubble\/\">stripping away regulation that protected people from predatory lendors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, I cannot allow this quote go unanswered:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\">Then his Treasury secretary, Henry Paulson Jr., told him that to stave off disaster, he would have to sign off on the biggest government bailout in history.
