{"id":193636,"date":"2008-12-01T15:33:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-01T20:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/12\/01\/economics-update-333\/"},"modified":"2008-12-01T15:33:00","modified_gmt":"2008-12-01T20:33:00","slug":"economics-update-333","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/12\/01\/economics-update-333\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Where the hell did manufacturing go? <\/p>\n<p>Seriously, with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=a405DQtfXuSU&amp;refer=home\">ISM&#8217;s factory index falling faster than it has in 20 years<\/a> in the US, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/news\/story\/november-manufacturing-activity-falls-prices\/story.aspx?guid=%7B89D71098-0129-432D-875A-1EECDDE62475%7D\">similar gauges dropping like epileptic ducks in the UK, Euro Zone, and Chine<\/a>, I&#8217;m expecting global manufacturing&#8217;s face to show up on a milk carton.<\/p>\n<p>If there is any solace, it is that <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2008\/12\/01\/markets\/oil\/\">oil prices fell<\/a> on reports that OPEC is holding off on further cuts for now, as did <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2008\/12\/01\/news\/economy\/gasoline\/index.htm\">retail gasoling<\/a> (75th straight day!).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, another indicator of the credit crunch Treasury yields, are still <a href=\"http:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/2008\/12\/01\/treasury-yields-hit-record-lows-but-will-it-last\/\">plumbing record lows<\/a>, indicating that money is still too frightened to do anything.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where the hell did manufacturing go?
