{"id":193704,"date":"2008-11-22T09:02:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-22T14:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/11\/22\/more-on-the-jsf-norway-buy\/"},"modified":"2008-11-22T09:02:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-22T14:02:00","slug":"more-on-the-jsf-norway-buy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/11\/22\/more-on-the-jsf-norway-buy\/","title":{"rendered":"More on the JSF Norway Buy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, we have the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.regjeringen.no\/en\/dep\/smk\/Press-Center\/Press-releases\/2008\/the-joint-strike-fighter-recommended-to-.html?id=537010\">statement by the Prime Minister that Norway has settled on the F-35 as its F-16 replacement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What I find interesting is this article, which says <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/rbssIndustryMaterialsUtilitiesNews\/idUSLK49633820081120\">Norway will pay $2.54 billion for 48 aircraft<\/a>, because that figureds to $52 million per aircraft, which is <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">less than half<\/span> the unit costs I&#8217;ve been seeing.<\/p>\n<p>Something is <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">seriously<\/span> whack with those numbers, which, as the Norwegian PM notes in his statement, is less than the Gripen, which is half it&#8217;s weight, and you pay for aircraft like you pay for ground beef, by the pound.<\/p>\n<p>It may be that the money <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">already<\/span> put into the program by Norway as a JSF partner is being counted, but there have to be some seriously heavy duty &#8220;Jedi mind tricks&#8221; in the accounting too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, we have the statement by the Prime Minister that Norway has settled on the F-35 as its F-16 replacement.
