{"id":193840,"date":"2008-11-12T19:57:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-13T00:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/11\/12\/the-exiled-on-larry-summers\/"},"modified":"2008-11-12T19:57:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-13T00:57:00","slug":"the-exiled-on-larry-summers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/11\/12\/the-exiled-on-larry-summers\/","title":{"rendered":"The Exiled on Larry Summers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the War Nerd, pretty much everything from The Exiled Online is pretty amaxing stuff, and I highly recommend it.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point, <a href=\"http:\/\/exiledonline.com\/larry-summers-a-suicidal-choice\/\">Mark Ames review of the life and times of Lawrence Summers<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 1991 he authored a memo calling Africa &#8220;Under Pulluted.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>1n 1982 he worked on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Reagan&#8217;s<\/span> council of economic advisers helping to deregulate banking.<\/li>\n<li>In 1990, his policies for economic shock therapy in Lithuania <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">literally<\/span> had citizens of the Baltic republic killing themselves at <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">twice the rate of other recently liberalized nations<\/span>, which had the Lithuanians <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">voting the Communists back into power<\/span> in 1992.<\/li>\n<li>His role in corruption, along with protege Andrei Schleifer, in the &#8220;liberalization&#8221; of the Russian economy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Let&#8217;s be clear here, in any sane place, and Washington, DC is apparently <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">not<\/span> a sane place, not only would this man not be considered for a public position, but <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">just on the basis of his calling Africa, &#8220;Under Polluted&#8221;<\/span>, he would be shunned from polite society.<\/p>\n<p>The man is a corrupt and incompetent ideologue, and the idea that he is being considered as Secretary of the Treasure, and that he <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">was<\/span> Secretary of the Treasury, leaves me stunned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the War Nerd, pretty much everything from The Exiled Online is pretty amaxing stuff, and I highly recommend it.
