{"id":193896,"date":"2008-11-08T10:12:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-08T15:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/11\/08\/zhuhai-air-show-picture-pr0n\/"},"modified":"2008-11-08T10:12:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-08T15:12:00","slug":"zhuhai-air-show-picture-pr0n","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/11\/08\/zhuhai-air-show-picture-pr0n\/","title":{"rendered":"Zhuhai Air Show Picture Pr0n"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, let&#8217;s start with the UAVs, and the Chinese are clearly looking at matching US capabilities with large UAVs:<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img529.imageshack.us\/img529\/8344\/d1b6aa31669f407ebdb55e1ft1.jpg\" \/><br \/>This rather looks like any number of low observability UAVS<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img529.imageshack.us\/img529\/5126\/018f5f4075e54cbb8961f0amr7.jpg\" \/><br \/>The  Tian Yi-3 looks like a Global Hawk<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img527.imageshack.us\/img527\/3124\/9694a4f4900d41cbaf5d143qt0.jpg\" \/><br \/>As does the Soar Dragon.<\/div>\n<p>We also see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aviationweek.com\/aw\/blogs\/defense\/index.jsp?plckController=Blog&amp;plckScript=blogScript&amp;plckElementId=blogDest&amp;plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&amp;plckPostId=Blog%3A27ec4a53-dcc8-42d0-bd3a-01329aef79a7Post%3A791a09c8-4e35-4850-877b-61de1f7f1ea9\">new antiship missiles and a trainer<\/a>, which looks a lot like the russian Yak-130 trainer.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img186.imageshack.us\/img186\/7131\/58e0ab7caaba43ccabcbf17cc0.jpg\" \/><br \/>These look identical to missiles that Iran have shown, which gives a pretty good idea as to the provenance of those.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img171.imageshack.us\/img171\/2766\/23bd3c843c984411a43a490nd6.jpg\" \/><br \/>Clearly separated at birth from the Yak.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">It also looks like it&#8217;s not just the US and Israel that are seriously considering truck mounted SAMs based on currently fielded air to air missiles:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img234.imageshack.us\/img234\/9122\/8df4ba5d14f0475c84ceb2csj6.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>That being said, the highlight of the show tends to be the aircraft that actually, of which the canard delta J-10 was the star of the show.<\/p>\n<p>There is a very good collection of pictures <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aviationweek.com\/aw\/blogs\/defense\/index.jsp?plckController=Blog&amp;plckScript=blogScript&amp;plckElementId=blogDest&amp;plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&amp;plckPostId=Blog%3A27ec4a53-dcc8-42d0-bd3a-01329aef79a7Post%3A4fbbee1b-43ca-4ac6-806a-99629bcb5829\">here<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aviationweek.com\/aw\/blogs\/defense\/index.jsp?plckController=Blog&amp;plckScript=blogScript&amp;plckElementId=blogDest&amp;plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&amp;plckPostId=Blog%3A27ec4a53-dcc8-42d0-bd3a-01329aef79a7Post%3A4fbbee1b-43ca-4ac6-806a-99629bcb5829\"><\/a>, which in addition to the J-10  has pics of the henyang J-8II fighter aircraft (above), a Xian JH-7A strike aircraft, and the Xian H-6U (Beagle derivative?) tanker.  But here is some canard:<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img519.imageshack.us\/img519\/6424\/fdcefe8730004213aa0ffe4or5.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img411.imageshack.us\/img411\/8571\/7e997adcd3b7406da060233qa7.jpg\" \/><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img397.imageshack.us\/img397\/3260\/3dac9173dd8544c592a8b06wp7.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Thankfully, we also get some pictures of the J-10 in flight:<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img527.imageshack.us\/img527\/4185\/j10aa3.gif\" \/><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">A &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flightglobal.com\/articles\/2008\/11\/06\/318482\/picture-j-10-debuts-at-airshow-china-2008.html\">chute for landing<\/a>&#8230;That&#8217;s unexpected&#8230;.In a 1970s way.<\/div>\n<p>We also have a review of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flightglobal.com\/blogs\/the-dewline\/2008\/11\/dispatch-from-zhuhai-chinas-j1.html\">demonstration flights at the airshow<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What is interesting is that the review of its performance by Vladimir Karnozov is very positive, &#8220;The pilot rarely used afterburner and the degrees of canard deflection were small. Still, the airplane flew very well.
