{"id":194155,"date":"2008-10-19T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-19T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/10\/19\/dragon-skin-and-its-successors\/"},"modified":"2008-10-19T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-19T11:00:00","slug":"dragon-skin-and-its-successors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/10\/19\/dragon-skin-and-its-successors\/","title":{"rendered":"Dragon Skin and Its Successors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/img98.imageshack.us\/img98\/6427\/dragonskinplatelc2.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/>I haven&#8217;t followed the entire body armor controversy particularly closely.<\/p>\n<p>My interest there has primarily been the allegations of corruption and war profiteering, but I know that this is a subject that tends to get people screaming at each other, with the word &#8220;conspiracy&#8221; being thrown around.<\/p>\n<p>So the army&#8217;s decision to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defensetech.org\/archives\/004474.html\">postpone tests on flexible armor<\/a> will doubtless raise some hackles.<\/p>\n<p>It may be that the army saw some new technology coming down the pipe, as we also have a press release from Allan Bain, one of the creators of scale armor,<sup>*<\/sup> regarding a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defensetech.org\/archives\/004475.html\">new technology to forge the plates that will result in improved performance<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Evolution Armor Systems calls it &#8220;Skaalar Exoskin Gen 4+&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><sup>*<\/sup><span style=\"font-size:78%;\">Truth be told, the technology is thousands of years old, so we are talking about the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size:78%;\" >re<\/span><span style=\"font-size:78%;\">creators of scale armor.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I haven&#8217;t followed the entire body armor controversy particularly closely.
