{"id":194186,"date":"2008-10-17T17:19:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-17T22:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/10\/17\/equal-justice-under-law-9-ohio-republican-party-0\/"},"modified":"2008-10-17T17:19:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-17T22:19:00","slug":"equal-justice-under-law-9-ohio-republican-party-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/10\/17\/equal-justice-under-law-9-ohio-republican-party-0\/","title":{"rendered":"Equal Justice Under Law: 9 &#8211; Ohio Republican Party: 0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ohio Republican Party got lower courts to approve their voter suppression tactics, which would have allowed them to use things an error in coding a middle initial to prevent people from voting.<\/p>\n<p>Well, by a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">9-0 unanimous vote<\/span>, the Supreme Court told them to go Cheney themselves.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what shocks me more, the fact that the Supreme Court ruled this way, or that it was unanimous.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s clear that the ruling was narrow, on the basis that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/27238980\/\">Ohio Republican Party lacked standing in the suit<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>Instead, they said they were granting Brunner&#8217;s request because it appears that the law does not allow private entities, like the Ohio GOP, to file suit to enforce the provision of the law at issue.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>My guess is that they had 5 votes for democracy, and the other 4 got this narrow ruling, so they wouldn&#8217;t look like completely political tools&#8230;.See <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Bush v.
