{"id":194352,"date":"2008-10-03T15:13:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-03T20:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/10\/03\/economics-update-367\/"},"modified":"2008-10-03T15:13:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-03T20:13:00","slug":"economics-update-367","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/10\/03\/economics-update-367\/","title":{"rendered":"Economics Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/img340.imageshack.us\/img340\/1378\/employmentmeasuressept0qo4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img340.imageshack.us\/img340\/1378\/employmentmeasuressept0qo4.jpg\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a>Well, we are seeing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/27006277\">9th straight drop in monthly non-farm employment rolls<\/a> (click on graphs for pretty pictures).<\/p>\n<p>I find The U6 graph that I swiped from <a href=\"http:\/\/krugman.blogs.nytimes.com\/2008\/10\/03\/the-track-record\/\">Paul Krugman<\/a> to be particularly interesting.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s just call it; we are in a recession.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/img256.imageshack.us\/img256\/5489\/u6sept081686629fs1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img256.imageshack.us\/img256\/5489\/u6sept081686629fs1.png\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a>I would also note that the credit flows have nearly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601109&amp;sid=a.o1tHRJoe.k&amp;refer=exclusive\">shut down worldwide<\/a>, which is why <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/26997828\/for\/cnbc\/\">the Federal Reserve lending window is seeing record use from banks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>BTW, it ain&#8217;t just the Fed which is throwing money, particularly US Dollars, out the windows, it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601110&amp;sid=ac6SNK3etYHk\">all of the central banks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The obvious big news is the House passing the Wall Street bail-out, and I&#8217;m as yet unsure how the markets are reacting to this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2008\/10\/03\/markets\/oil\/\">Oil is down down<\/a>, which could either imply confidence in the US economy, or the belief that a recession is inevitable, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2008\/10\/03\/markets\/dollar\/index.htm\">dollar is mixed<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, we are seeing the 9th straight drop in monthly non-farm employment rolls (click on graphs for pretty pictures).
