{"id":194979,"date":"2008-08-05T17:52:00","date_gmt":"2008-08-05T22:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/08\/05\/when-does-a-writer-become-too-personally-repulsive-to-read\/"},"modified":"2008-08-05T17:52:00","modified_gmt":"2008-08-05T22:52:00","slug":"when-does-a-writer-become-too-personally-repulsive-to-read","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/08\/05\/when-does-a-writer-become-too-personally-repulsive-to-read\/","title":{"rendered":"When Does a Writer Become too Personally Repulsive to Read?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Orson Scott Card does not raise the question for me, I read <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Ender&#8217;s Game<\/span>, and was not particularly impressed, but he does for a lot of avid readers of SF.<\/p>\n<p>His <a href=\"http:\/\/mormontimes.com\/ME_blogs.php?id=1586\">recent essay equating gay marriage with allowing blind people to drive, and suggesting a fascist state will mercilessly expose children to &#8220;te gay&#8221;<\/a> will further conflict those folks who think that he <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">doesn&#8217;t<\/span> write crap, particularly when he seems to call for a revolution to promulgate anti-gay discrimination in our society.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, I find his plotting pedestrian, his characterizations flat, and his writing not particularly engaging, which is which I read <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Ender&#8217;s Game<\/span> 20+ years ago, and haven&#8217;t read anything else of his since.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Orson Scott Card does not raise the question for me, I read Ender&#8217;s Game, and was not particularly impressed, but he does for a lot of avid readers of SF.
