Duss <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/wonkroom\/2008\/05\/22\/sistani-resistance\/\">his explicit approval of anti-US violance<\/a> is being driven by the criticism he has invreasingly recieved about his silence regarding the brutality of American tactics.<\/p>\n<p>Juan Cole goes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.juancole.com\/2008\/05\/will-sistani-declare-jihad-on-us.html\">rather deeper into what is going on<\/a>, and notes that Sistani&#8217;s relative silence may very well be driven by the consequences of the Shiite uprising in 1920, which had the British putting Sunnis firmly in power as a proxies.<\/p>\n<p>As noted <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20080522\/ap_on_re_mi_ea\/iraq_sistani_s_edicts\">here<\/a> his Fatwas have seen <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">very<\/span> limited release, basically face to face with no real record of them otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>If it gets more vocal, not only will US forces have to leave, but it will look like the evacuation of Saigon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is rather significant, and I agree with M.
