{"id":196426,"date":"2008-04-28T20:01:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-29T01:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/04\/28\/gripen-sales-pitch-to-norway\/"},"modified":"2008-04-28T20:01:00","modified_gmt":"2008-04-29T01:01:00","slug":"gripen-sales-pitch-to-norway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/04\/28\/gripen-sales-pitch-to-norway\/","title":{"rendered":"Gripen Sales Pitch to Norway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now that Sweden has rolled out the advanced Gripen demonstrator, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aviationweek.com\/aw\/blogs\/defense\/index.jsp?plckController=Blog&amp;plckScript=blogScript&amp;plckElementId=blogDest&amp;plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&amp;plckPostId=Blog%3A27ec4a53-dcc8-42d0-bd3a-01329aef79a7Post%3A9a60d997-3c16-4077-922a-a6575b651d8d\">they are aggressively marketing it to Norway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, Sweden is offering co-development on some of the technologies, and a promise to upgrade their Gripens to this standard should Norway buy them.<\/p>\n<p>My money is still on the steamroller that is the JSF, at least until deliveries start showing late and more expensive than previously anticipated, my guess is a price tag 2\/3 that of the F-22 ($120 million a pop) as versus the $50-60 million for the Gripen.<\/p>\n<p>At that point, the Gripen will look very attractive to countries that are taking a wait and see approach.<\/p>\n<p>Yep, the Gripen is my fighter obsession right now.
