{"id":196808,"date":"2008-03-23T21:41:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-24T02:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/03\/23\/the-pope-bitch-slaps-condi-rice\/"},"modified":"2008-03-23T21:41:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-24T02:41:00","slug":"the-pope-bitch-slaps-condi-rice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2008\/03\/23\/the-pope-bitch-slaps-condi-rice\/","title":{"rendered":"The Pope Bitch Slaps Condi Rice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OK, my opinion of Benedict has improved a bit, though he is still a reactionary idiot.<\/p>\n<p>The title is not mine though, I whole heatedly approve the hed, and will defend it, but that bon mot is not mine, so I cannot take credit for it.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that Pope Benedict XVI has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aina.org\/news\/20080320143129.htm\">refused an audience for Condolleza Rice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She had requested an audience in August (you know, in order to play politics with the conventions and the November election).<\/p>\n<p>The pope has denied this request, ostensibly since it was his August holiday, but really for two reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bush and His Evil Minions<sup>\u2122<\/sup> in general, and Condoleeza Rice in particular, were hostile and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">rude<\/span> to John Paul II when he sent emissaries out to attempt to prevent the war.<\/li>\n<li>Because the US has steadfastly rebuffed requests from the &#8220;Holy See&#8221; to prevent the ethnic cleansing to of the Christian minority in Iraq.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Condoleeza Rice should not be too upset by this, &#8220;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Instead of meeting the Pope, Ms Rice had to make do with a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">telephone conversation<\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> with the Vatican&#8217;s number two, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, who was visiting the US during August on other business<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So, he won&#8217;t talk to her, but his number two will talk to her <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">on the phone<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Girlfriend, maybe he just ain&#8217;t into you&#8230;You know.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, my opinion of Benedict has improved a bit, though he is still a reactionary idiot.
