The only way we can do this is if we get back in the world\u2019s fight against global warming and prove it is good economics that we will create more jobs to build a sustainable economy that saves the planet for our children and grandchildren. It is the only way it will work.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(emphasis mine)<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.abcnews.com\/politicalpunch\/2008\/01\/bill-we-just-ha.html\">Jake Tapper reported it thusly<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>In a long, and interesting speech, he characterized what the U.S. and other industrialized nations need to do to combat global warming this way: \u201cWe just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions \u2019cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At a time that the nation is worried about a recession is that really the characterization his wife would want him making? \u201cSlow down our economy\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t really think there\u2019s much debate that, at least initially, a full commitment to reduce greenhouse gases would slow down the economy\u2026.So was this a moment of candor?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Remarkably hacktacular.   In fact, it was so hacktacular that right wing blogs, such as  <a href=\"http:\/\/corner.nationalreview.com\/post\/?q=M2VhN2E4NzQ0ODYyMWE5N2QzMWQwNjA3MDI3MjBjNDk=\">The Corner on National Review Online<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2008\/01\/31\/billy-jeff-soothes-jitters-over-economic-slowdown-by-calling-for-economic-slowdown\/\">Hot Air<\/a> are criticizing Jake Tapper for being unfair to Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n<p>When you have right wingers complaining that you are unfair to Bill Clinton, it is clear that you have jumped the shark.<\/p>\n<p>H\/t <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com\/archives\/14426.html\">The Carpet Bagger Report<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Jake Tapper ran a story suggesting that Bill Clinton suggested that slowing the economy of the developed nations would have to slow their economies to deal with global warming, when he was actually showing that such a strategy would not work.
