{"id":197941,"date":"2007-12-30T23:46:00","date_gmt":"2007-12-31T04:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2007\/12\/30\/conservative-affirmative-action-in-action-bill-kristol-edition\/"},"modified":"2007-12-30T23:46:00","modified_gmt":"2007-12-31T04:46:00","slug":"conservative-affirmative-action-in-action-bill-kristol-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2007\/12\/30\/conservative-affirmative-action-in-action-bill-kristol-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Conservative Affirmative Action in Action: Bill Kristol Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It looks like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/12\/30\/business\/30kristol.html?ex=1356670800&amp;en=acecd3cfaeb0f01a&amp;ei=5090&amp;partner=rssuserland&amp;emc=rss\">the <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">New York Times<\/span> will be offering Bill Kristol a columnist gig for the next year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It seems to be rather more limited than usual, with only 1 column a week, normally it&#8217;s 2, and only a year long contract.<\/p>\n<p>While not as egregious a case as Jonah Goldberg<sup>*<\/sup>, Bill Kristol is the beneficiary of &#8220;Conservative Affirmative Action&#8221;, much as is the brothers Kagan, who all seem to dance from position to position based on little more than who their parents were.<\/p>\n<p>Nepotism is a problem because you end up with idiot sons managing things that they have no business managing.  You can refer to <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com\/the_daily_dish\/2007\/10\/conservative-me.html\">Andrew Sullivan&#8217;s post about John Podhoretz<\/a> becoming editor of <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Commentary<\/span> if you want it in the short form with lots of snark.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not a fan of Mr. Sullivan, but when he&#8217;s on, he can be amusing.<\/p>\n<p><sup>*<\/sup><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Seriously, I&#8217;m embarrassed by this guy because <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">we share the same nationality<\/span><\/span><sup>\u2020<\/sup><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">, I know his mom is a &#8220;person of note&#8221; in the community, but you need to find someone with more of a flair for original thought, like Jayson Blair of Stephen Glass.<\/span><br \/><sup>\u2020<\/sup><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Carrot Top fills me with the same feelings too.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It looks like the New York Times will be offering Bill Kristol a columnist gig for the next year.
