{"id":198376,"date":"2007-11-13T17:39:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-13T22:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2007\/11\/13\/uk-investigation-of-bae-saudi-bribes-back-on\/"},"modified":"2007-11-13T17:39:00","modified_gmt":"2007-11-13T22:39:00","slug":"uk-investigation-of-bae-saudi-bribes-back-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2007\/11\/13\/uk-investigation-of-bae-saudi-bribes-back-on\/","title":{"rendered":"UK Investigation of BAE-Saudi Bribes Back On"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About a year ago, Tony Blair canceled a serious fraud investigation of a very large arms deal between BAE Systems<sup>*<\/sup> and the House of Saud under threat of cancellation of the order, and now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defencetalk.com\/news\/publish\/defence\/Campaigners_Win_Landmark_Ruling_on_BAE-Saudi_Corruption_Case30014131.php\">two NGOs have been given permission to investigate an investigation of this decision under the OECD&#8217;s Anti-Bribery Convention<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s pretty clear that bribery was involved, I believe that Prince Bandar got <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">over a billion dollars<\/span> in &#8220;consulting fees&#8221;, for example, and the House of Saud was quite clear that any investigation of kickbacks would result in the cancellation of the contract for multi-billion dollar purchase of Eurofighter Typhoons.<\/p>\n<p><sup>*<\/sup><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Full disclosure, I worked at a BAE Systems facility as a contractor from June 2005 (about, depends on when the sale went through) through Decmeber 2006 as a contractor.
