Schlesinger, Jr.&#8217;s journals:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I<span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\">n later entries, Schlesinger writes of Hillary\u2019s \u201ccharm and humor\u201d and her \u201cinfectious joie de vivre.\u201d But it must be said that she doesn\u2019t always laugh, even when something\u2019s funny. In 1998, at the height of the Full Monica, Schlesinger, then eighty-one years old, is seated next to the First Lady at a formal White House dinner celebrating the National Humanities Medals, one of which he has just been awarded. They\u2019re having a jolly, dishy time\u2014she\u2019s \u201cvery easy to talk to\u201d\u2014when Arthur gets a little too expansive:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>I made the point that the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">liberals had stood by Clinton <\/span>while the DLC [Democratic Leadership Council] people had deserted him and described <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">the miserable [Senator Joseph I.] Lieberman as a \u201csanctimonious prick.\u201d<\/span> Hillary said, \u201cWell, he is certainly sanctimonious,\u201d but showed no eagerness to pursue this line of thought.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">(emphasis mine)<br \/><\/span>Of course Lieberman is no prick.
