The former is used to treat colon cancer, and the latter &#8220;wet&#8221; macular degeneration, one of the more common forms of blindness.<\/p>\n<p>The drugs are <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">very<\/span> similar, but Avastin, when cut to a dosage for eye treatment, costs about $38.00\/dose, as opposed to Lucentis, which <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">wholesales<\/span> for $1,950.00 a dose (no, I have <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">not<\/span> misplaced a decimal place.<\/p>\n<p>So now Genentech <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2007\/10\/12\/BU9JSOJCF.DTL\">is going to cut off pharmacists it believes are delivering the drug to ophthalmologists who use it in an off label application<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They claim that it&#8217;s safety concerns.
