{"id":199236,"date":"2007-08-22T21:41:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-23T02:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2007\/08\/22\/bush-administration-running-attack-ads-against-republicans\/"},"modified":"2007-08-22T21:41:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-23T02:41:00","slug":"bush-administration-running-attack-ads-against-republicans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2007\/08\/22\/bush-administration-running-attack-ads-against-republicans\/","title":{"rendered":"Bush Administration Running Attack Ads Against&#8230;.Republicans?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it appears that an Astroturf group loaded with money from Bush contributors, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedomswatch.org\/\">Freedom Watch<\/a>, is doing its bit to try to extend the war in Iraq: <a href=\"http:\/\/thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com\/2007\/08\/21\/warads\/\">It&#8217;s running attack ads against Republicans who are going weak kneed on the war<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, this is being run through either current, or former, or soon to be former <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">*cough*<\/span> Rove <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">*cough*<\/span>Bush political operatives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0807\/5479.html\">Quoting Politico<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 153);\"><p>&#8220;For those who believe in peace through strength, the cavalry is coming,&#8221; said <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer<\/span><\/span>, who is a founding board member of the group.<\/p>\n<p>The big ad buy, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">funded by high-profile Republicans who were aides and supporters of President Bush<\/span><\/span>, reflects a furious public relations battle that will unfold as Congress debates the crucial progress report by Gen. David Petraeus, which is due Sept. 15.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>BTW, <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2007\/08\/there-is-no-patreaus-report.html\">there is no Petraeus report<\/a>.  The Bush White House is writing the report with &#8220;input&#8221; from Petraeus.<\/p>\n<p>FWIW, Tom Matzzie of Americans Against Escalation in Iraq has written their spokesman, Ari Fleischer, a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.americablog.com\/2007\/08\/open-thank-you-letter-to-ari-fleischer.html\">thank you note<\/a><\/span>, in which an analysis of the first ad buy is made, 37 targeting Republicans vs. 4 Democrats, and only one of the Democrats is not sharing a District with a Republican.<\/p>\n<p>BTW, one of the people that they are targeting is <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\"><span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">Mitch McConnell<\/span><\/span>, Republican leader of the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>This is truly a WTF moment, and typifies Bush&#8217;s idea of loyalty.
