{"id":200147,"date":"2021-06-27T20:41:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-28T01:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/06\/27\/jeebus-8\/"},"modified":"2021-06-27T20:41:00","modified_gmt":"2021-06-28T01:41:00","slug":"jeebus-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/06\/27\/jeebus-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeebus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/weather\/2021\/06\/oregon-heat-wave-portland-expected-to-record-new-all-time-high-temperature-sunday.html\">Portland, Oregon hit 114\u00b0F (45.5\u00b0C) Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If the death toll in the Pacific Northwest from high temperatures over this weekend is not in the thousands, I would be very surprised.<\/p>\n<p>Even for houses with air-conditioning, this is likely to be more heat than they could handle:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">Portland  again reached a new record temperature late Sunday afternoon, hitting  112 degrees and breaking the previous records set earlier Sunday and  Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSPortland\/status\/1409303279872274434\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the National Weather Service announced on Twitter. <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">The  high temperature for Portland International Airport reached 108 degrees  Saturday, surpassing the city\u2019s all-time record of 107, first set in  1965. By 2:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Portland had surpassed that record  by three degrees. The record now stands at 112 as of 5 p.m. Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Portland normally has a handful of 90\u00b0F+ days a year.<\/p>\n<p>In the 4 years that I lived in Portland, it never broke 100\u00b0F. (<i>Update, Checked the record, I was wrong.&nbsp; From August 1976 through August 1980, there were 10 100\u00b0F+ days<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, this is weather, and not climate, but it is clearly anthropogenic climate change driven weather.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Portland, Oregon hit 114\u00b0F (45.5\u00b0C) Today.
