{"id":200176,"date":"2021-06-17T20:07:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-18T01:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/06\/17\/the-dog-ate-my-homework\/"},"modified":"2021-06-17T20:07:00","modified_gmt":"2021-06-18T01:07:00","slug":"the-dog-ate-my-homework","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/06\/17\/the-dog-ate-my-homework\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dog Ate My Homework"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So now, <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2021\/06\/amazon-blames-social-media-companies-for-sales-of-fake-amazon-reviews\/\">Amazon is blaming social media for the plague of false reviews on its site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If they have the resources to dedicate to tracking their shoppers&#8217; habits, and the resources to surveil and harass their employees at the slightest whiff of a unionization effort, they have the resources to fix this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">Amazon today said it can&#8217;t stop fake product reviews without help from social media companies, and it blamed those companies for not doing more to prevent solicitation of fake reviews. <\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aboutamazon.com\/news\/how-amazon-works\/creating-a-trustworthy-reviews-experience?ots=1&amp;slotNum=0&amp;imprToken=a4bd0ebe-d0a6-349c-11c&amp;tag=arstech20-20&amp;linkCode=w50\">blog post<\/a>, Amazon said its own &#8220;continued improvements in detection of fake reviews and connections between bad-actor buying and selling accounts&#8221; has led to &#8220;an increasing trend of bad actors attempting to solicit<\/span>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">fake reviews outside Amazon, particularly via social media services.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Amazon doesn&#8217;t handle the fake review problem because they don&#8217;t want to.&nbsp; Anything near a full accounting would reveal just how badly they are screwing their customers, and they make a lot of money by screwing these same customers.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s also why they are so lackadaisical about pursuing counterfeit product in their market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So now, Amazon is blaming social media for the plague of false reviews on its site.
