{"id":200205,"date":"2021-06-09T18:04:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T23:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/06\/09\/consider-the-source-6\/"},"modified":"2021-06-09T18:04:00","modified_gmt":"2021-06-09T23:04:00","slug":"consider-the-source-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/06\/09\/consider-the-source-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Consider the Source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second most contemptible Democratic think tank in Washington, DC, Third Way, has an analysis of why Democrats performed poorly in the 2020 elections, and it comes down to the fact that <a href=\"https:\/\/jacobinmag.com\/2021\/06\/third-way-biden-2020-trump-postelection-report-democratic-party\/\">Democrats stand for nothing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When one considers the source, a group who has fought for years to <b>ensure<\/b> that the Democratic Party stand for nothing, this is telling:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">In the months since the Democrats\u2019 underwhelming performance in last year\u2019s election, we\u2019ve more or less been able to figure out why the party did so poorly despite a historically unpopular opponent and the two world-historical crises he presided over.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Surprise, surprise: a new 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thirdway.org\/report\/2020-post-election-analysis\">postelection autopsy<\/a> comes to many of these same conclusions \u2014 conclusions that observers on the Left have been stressing for months, pulling their hair out as the Democratic Party\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/house-democrats-pelosi-election\/2020\/11\/05\/1ddae5ca-1f6e-11eb-90dd-abd0f7086a91_story.html?itid=lk_inline_manual_5\">CIA caucus<\/a> sought to publicly put the blame on the party\u2019s handful of socialists, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2020\/09\/29\/increasing-share-of-americans-favor-a-single-government-program-to-provide-health-care-coverage\/\">popular<\/a>, commonsense ideas like Medicare for All. But what genuinely is a surprise is who authored this particular autopsy: Third Way, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prwatch.org\/news\/2020\/01\/13535\/centrist-third-way-funded-corporate-interests-attacks-sanders-iowa\">corporate-<\/a> \u2014 especially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/archive\/third-way-majority-our-financial-support-wall-street-business-executives\/\">Wall Street\u2013<\/a> \u2014 funded think tank that exists to shape Democratic policy for the benefit of tycoons <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2019\/08\/13\/koch-brothers-third-way\/\">like the Kochs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026 <\/p>\n<p>Finally, there was the decision to cancel in-person canvassing, at the same time that the GOP launched a furious door-knocking and voter registration effort. \u201cMany of those included in this analysis said in hindsight Democrats could have been on doors safely in more places \u2014 and Democrats would have won several close races if they had gone back on the doors either sooner or in a more robust way than they did,\u201d states the report. This point <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/texas-democrats-latinos-in-person-campaigning-2020-election_n_5fa5dc3dc5b67c3259ae998b\">was made<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/10\/29\/miami-voter-turnout-democrats-433643\">repeatedly<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/01\/26\/us\/politics\/nan-whaley-rob-portman-senate.html\">on the record<\/a> by a host of the party\u2019s leading lights after the election and was almost certainly responsible for not just the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2020\/oct\/02\/joe-biden-campaign-us-elections-2020-covid-19\">drop in support among Latinos<\/a> but for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2020-election\/trump-s-winning-voter-registration-battle-against-biden-key-states-n1241674\">Republicans<\/a>\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmbfnews.com\/2020\/11\/04\/south-carolina-gop-claims-victory-dems-recalibrating-while-undergoing-voter-protection-effort\/\">crucial triumphs<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/374834-thats-what-you-call-winning-republicans-close-voter-registration-gap-to-1-point\/\">at the<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennlive.com\/elections\/2020\/10\/democrats-still-outnumber-republicans-in-pa-but-gop-has-closed-the-gap.html\">state level<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Silly rabbit, the consultants don&#8217;t get their vig with door to door canvassing, and their payday is <b>WAY<\/b> more important than winning elections.<\/p>\n<p>This is yet another confirmation of the Harry S Truman quote, &#8220;Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second most contemptible Democratic think tank in Washington, DC, Third Way, has an analysis of why Democrats performed poorly in the 2020 elections, and it comes down to the fact that Democrats stand for nothing.
