{"id":200278,"date":"2021-05-22T18:35:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-22T23:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/05\/22\/now-i-understand-the-full-court-press-against-amlo\/"},"modified":"2021-05-22T18:35:00","modified_gmt":"2021-05-22T23:35:00","slug":"now-i-understand-the-full-court-press-against-amlo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/05\/22\/now-i-understand-the-full-court-press-against-amlo\/","title":{"rendered":"Now I Understand the Full Court Press against AMLO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There has been a steady drum beat of accusations against Mexican President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador, in places like the <i>New York Times<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>My assumption is that AMLO is taking actions that generally favors the &#8220;Have Nots&#8221; over the &#8220;Haves&#8221;, and this is why we see alarm from the usual suspects.<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t followed this closely, but his recent decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/mexiconewsdaily.com\/news\/amlo-to-choose-banxico-governor-with-moral-economy\/\">replace the Bank of Mexico governor with one who favors people over finance<\/a> is a very good indicator of where he intends to go:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">President L\u00f3pez Obrador said Friday that he will replace the current central bank governor with an economist who supports a \u201cmoral economy\u201d \u2014 an economy in which the well-being of everyone is prioritized over the wealth of the few.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at his regular news conference, L\u00f3pez Obrador said he won\u2019t nominate current Bank of M\u00e9xico Governor Alejandro D\u00edaz de Le\u00f3n for a second term after it concludes at the end of November.<\/p>\n<p>L\u00f3pez Obrador, a fierce critic of the neoliberal economic policies he says were implemented by successive governments during the 36 years preceding his arrival in the National Palace, said he would instead nominate an economist with \u201ca lot of prestige\u201d who is better attuned to Mexico\u2019s social needs.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There has been a steady drum beat of accusations against Mexican President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador, in places like the New York Times.
