{"id":200458,"date":"2021-04-04T18:59:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-04T23:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/04\/04\/amazon-fesses-up-in-pissgate\/"},"modified":"2021-04-04T18:59:00","modified_gmt":"2021-04-04T23:59:00","slug":"amazon-fesses-up-in-pissgate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/04\/04\/amazon-fesses-up-in-pissgate\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon Fesses Up in Pissgate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  Amazon has been trolling its critics so unhinged lately that   <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2021\/03\/amazon-tweets-trolling-congress-were-so-bad-that-it-thought-account-was-hacked\/\">their own IT department thought that someone had hacked their Twitter     account<\/a>.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>  This is because many public figures, indluding many leading lights in the left   wing of the Democratic Party, including Bernie Sanders and Alexandria   Ocasio-Cortez, have been highlighting the brutal inhumanity of Amazon&#8217;s   treatments of its workers, including allegations that the schedules for its   drivers are so tight that they have no time to relieve themselves, and have to   use pee bottles. <\/p>\n<p>  Amazon furiously denied those allegations, maintaining that they treat their   employees well, and no one has to piss in a bottle to make quota. <\/p>\n<p>  Or rather, Amazon <b>WAS<\/b> denying those reports, but now they are saying   that   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2021\/apr\/03\/amazon-apology-democrat-mark-pocan\">their earlier statements were inoperative<\/a>:&nbsp; Drivers were using pee bottles after all:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>  <span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">Amazon has apologized to the congressman Mark Pocan, admitting to scoring     an \u201cown goal\u201d in its initial denial of his suggestion its drivers were     sometimes forced to urinate in bottles during delivery rounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe     know that drivers can and do have trouble finding restrooms because of     traffic or sometimes rural routes, and this has been especially the case     during Covid when many public restrooms have been closed,\u201d the company     <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2PnoLKr\">said<\/a> in a blogpost.<\/p>\n<p>Its     admission came a week after the Wisconsin Democrat criticised working     conditions for Amazon staff, saying in a tweet: \u201cPaying workers $15 [an     hour] doesn\u2019t make you a \u2018progressive workplace\u2019 when you union-bust and     make workers urinate in water bottles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amazon responded: \u201cYou     don\u2019t really believe the peeing in bottles thing, do you?
