{"id":200516,"date":"2021-03-17T18:01:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-17T23:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/03\/17\/this-is-completely-insane\/"},"modified":"2021-03-17T18:01:00","modified_gmt":"2021-03-17T23:01:00","slug":"this-is-completely-insane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/03\/17\/this-is-completely-insane\/","title":{"rendered":"This is Completely Insane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  Boris Johnson and his merry band of blood-thirsty prats have decided that   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2021\/mar\/16\/defence-review-uk-could-use-trident-to-counter-cyber-attack\">nuclear weapons are an appropriate response to agents of foreign     governments hacking systems in the UK<\/a>.<sup>*<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>This is completely bat-sh%$ insane.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>  <span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">Britain is prepared to launch nuclear weapons if the country was faced with     an exceptionally destructive attack using cyber or other \u201cemerging     technologies\u201d, according to the integrated defence review.<\/p>\n<p>The     stark statement marks a change from existing UK policy, which had been that     <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk\/trident\">Trident<\/a> missiles could     only be launched against another nuclear power, or potentially in response     to extreme chemical or biological threats.<\/p>\n<p>The new policy says     Britain would \u201creserve the right\u201d to use nuclear weapons in the face of     \u201cweapons of mass destruction\u201d, which includes \u201cemerging technologies that     could have a comparable impact\u201d to chemical or biological weapons.<\/p>\n<p>It     sets the UK in a different direction to the US, where the newly elected     president, Joe Biden, had floated the idea during his election campaign of     making     <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/biden-says-he-would-push-for-less-u-s-reliance-on-nuclear-weapons-for-defense\">the \u201csole purpose\u201d of nuclear weapons<\/a>    to deter or if necessary to retaliate against a nuclear attack.<\/p>\n<p>No     further detail was spelled out in the document, published on Tuesday, but     analysts said the shift in language was significant. Tom Plant, a director     at the Royal United Services Institute thinktank, said: \u201cThis is clearly an     indication that the UK government perceives the potential for some     combination of novel technologies, in years to come, to rival existing     WMD.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>  Just imagine what happens if someone starts downloading pr0n using Boris&#8217;   Netflix account. <\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/AOqeAlb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/AOqeAlb.jpg\" style=\"cursor: pointer; float: right; margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px;\" width=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><i>Shall we play a game?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Love to.&nbsp; How about Global Thermonuclear war?<sup>\u2020<\/sup><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And then there is this. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>  <span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">Discussion about Britain\u2019s new nuclear policy unveiled by Boris Johnson,     <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2021\/mar\/16\/keir-starmer-accuses-pm-of-breaking-policy-on-nuclear-disarmament\">reversing 30 years of modest disarmament<\/a>    since the end of the cold war, dominated the publication of a 100-page     integrated review of defence and foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p>It confirmed     leaks from Monday night that the UK would allow the     <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2021\/mar\/15\/cap-on-trident-nuclear-warhead-stockpile-to-rise-by-more-than-40\">cap on its nuclear weapon stockpile to rise to 260 from a target of       180<\/a>    \u201cby the mid-2020s\u201d \u2013 and that the UK would abandon a second pledge to hold a     lower number of operational warheads, previously set at 120.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>  This is a violation of the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (NNTP) which the   UK is a party to. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>  <span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">Defence sources said the decision to lift the warhead cap by over 40% was     motivated by a desire to be more assertive about nuclear weapons. \u201cIf we     have them, let\u2019s not apologise for it, let\u2019s own it,\u201d an insider added.   <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So this is just all dick swinging.&nbsp; Lovely.<\/p>\n<p>So now, Boris is the world&#8217;s problem.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> <sup>*<\/sup><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">As Anna Russell would say, &#8220;I&#8217;m not making this up, you know.&#8221;<\/span><br \/><sup>\u2020<\/sup><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Yes, I know.
