{"id":200528,"date":"2021-03-14T18:15:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-14T23:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/03\/14\/saying-the-quiet-part-out-loud-3\/"},"modified":"2021-03-14T18:15:00","modified_gmt":"2021-03-14T23:15:00","slug":"saying-the-quiet-part-out-loud-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/03\/14\/saying-the-quiet-part-out-loud-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Arizona, State Representative John Kavanagh kist said. &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/arizona-voting-laws-john-kavanagh-gop-b1816387.html\">We don\u2019t mind putting security measures in that won\u2019t let everybody vote \u2013 but everybody shouldn\u2019t be voting<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve always known it to be the case that Republicans don&#8217;t just object to the Democratic Party, they object to Democracy: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">A Republican lawmaker in Arizona has defended GOP-sponsored legislation to restrict ballot access as a means to protect \u201cthe quality of votes\u201d and arguing that \u201ceverybody shouldn\u2019t be voting\u201d as Republicans in at least 43 states introduce dozens of bills to curb voting rights, compelled by spurious fraud claims and election conspiracy theories in the wake of 2020 elections and disproportionately impacting Black voters.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona state Rep John Kavanagh, who chairs the state legislature\u2019s Government and Elections Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/03\/11\/politics\/arizona-republicans-voter-suppression-bills\/index.html\">told CNN<\/a> that Democrats are \u201cwilling to risk fraud\u201d by expanding voter access, and that \u201cRepublicans are more concerned about fraud, so we don\u2019t mind putting security measures in that won\u2019t let everybody vote \u2013 but everybody shouldn\u2019t be voting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kavanagh was referencing a measure that could purge thousands of people from a list of voters who automatically receive popular mail-in ballots during elections.
