{"id":200606,"date":"2021-02-20T20:32:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-21T01:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/02\/20\/bad-day-at-the-office-31\/"},"modified":"2021-02-20T20:32:00","modified_gmt":"2021-02-21T01:32:00","slug":"bad-day-at-the-office-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2021\/02\/20\/bad-day-at-the-office-31\/","title":{"rendered":"Bad Day at the Office"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; float: right; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; width: 330px;\">  <a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/s1Mgq7K.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" bordercolor=\"white\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/s1Mgq7K.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><br \/><i>Bad day at the office<\/p>\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sBxe4cQzUIY\" width=\"320\"><\/iframe><br \/>Not what I want to see out the window<\/i><\/div>\n<p>  United Airlines flight 328 from Denver to Honolulu   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/20\/us\/broomfield-plane.html\">suffered an uncontained engine failure shortly after takeoff<\/a>, shedding debris over a Denver neighborhood, and requiring a return and   emergency landing back at Denver International Airport (DEN). <\/p>\n<p>  No injuries have been reported, but I&#8217;m pretty sure that some of the   passengers and crew will have nightmares over this for years: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #2b00fe;\">A United Airlines flight with 241 people on board experienced   engine failure over a suburb of Boulder, Colo., on Saturday afternoon,   shedding debris across three neighborhoods before landing safely in Denver,   the authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>There were no injuries reported, officials   said.<\/p>\n<p>The flight, No. 328, took off from Denver International   Airport at 12:15 p.m. local time, said Alex Renteria, an airport   spokeswoman.<\/p>\n<p>The F.A.A.   <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FAANews\/status\/1363246988846895105\">said in a statement<\/a>  that the plane, a Boeing 777-200, experienced \u201ca right-engine failure\u201d shortly   after takeoff and that it was aware of reports of debris \u201cin the vicinity of   the airplane\u2019s flight path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The flight was headed from Denver to   Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu when the episode   happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The police in   Broomfield, Colo., which is about 15 miles southeast of Boulder, said   unspecified pieces of the plane fell across three neighborhoods around 1:08   p.m. local time.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In a   <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chrisvanderveen\/status\/1363232875232063493\">video on Twitter<\/a>, passengers can be heard cheering as the plane safely lands.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Something important to note here, in December, a JAL 777 of similar vintage with the same engines <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flightglobal.com\/safety\/united-777-suffers-engine-failure-over-denver\/142519.article\">also suffered a very similar engine failure<\/a>, so I would expect that any Pratt &amp; Whitney  PW4077 engine would be getting some pretty intense scrutiny right now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bad day at the office Not what I want to see out the window United Airlines flight 328 from Denver to Honolulu suffered an uncontained engine failure shortly after takeoff, shedding debris over a Denver neighborhood, and requiring a return and emergency landing back at Denver International Airport (DEN).
