1994 Congressional Elections

A Republican Landslide?

Many hail the Republican's 1994 congressional vicotry as a landslide and a mandate for radical change. Nothing could be farther from the truth. There was only a small shift in the popular vote.
               1992 1994
Democrats 51% 46%
Republicans 49% 54%

There was a 36% turnout in 1994. The Republicans received less votes in 1994 than the Democrats received in 1992 due to low voter turnout.

These statistics come from the Center for Voting and Democracy
