I'm heating up some glass in an oven
called a glory hole. The big metal contraption
behind me at the left side of the photo is
the glass furnace, which contains a crucible
with molten glass - it gets as hot as 2200 degrees
F. The yellow things on my arms are knit Kevlar
sleeves which give some protection from the
heat.
Here I'm at the bench working on shaping a
piece. The trick is to keep the pipe rolling
smoothly back and forth at all times, which
keeps the piece centered.
Seated, working on a piece, is Chuck,
one of the advanced students. Assisting
him is our instructor, the wonderful and
talented Lenoard Whitfield.
