Yet another Home Page, or,

Adventures of Beginning Glassblower

Strolling around in the business area of my neighborhood last February, I spied a sandwich board outside of the Art by Fire gallery  that said "glass-blowing, classes".  Popping in and talking to them resulted in me forking over a sizeable amount of cash, in return for which I was promised 6 - 4 hours classes, 4 people per class, and the ability to blow basic glass shapes by the end.

I was prepared for an interesting, fun experience.  What I didn't expect was how much I love it.  Molten glass seems to come alive, and has a dance all its own.  The glass worker is first the leader, coaxing the molten glass onto the metal rod and shaping it into the basic form, then the follower, working with the waves and rhythms of the glass, then again the leader, teasing it into more complex forms and shapes that are still dictated by the  flow of the glass.  Soon, you find yourself shutting out the world, and all that's there is you, the glass and  the flow of the dance.
