Junction is unusual in the system, as its localspace consists of a collection of deep space habits, about 6000 AU from the star. The main habitat, called Junction Habitat, is close to wormhole Alpha with jumps to Laik Epsilion and Nexa. That alone would be enough to guarantee a habitat, but there is a second wormhole, Beta, along the trade route for Pik-Ze V and Tolam, with an additional route to Boru, just 2 AU away. A third jump point, Gamma, roughly 2 AU from the others, leads to Boru Zok, on a shorter route than the route entirely contained in the Boruian Empire. Gamma's other jump route is the gateway to the broader galaxy, 14 jumps and 200 AU of normal space away. The major routes make Junction a busy system, with hundreds of ships passing through the Laik-Epsilon/Nexa jump every day, and hundreds more between Gamma and Beta each week.

Junction Habitat provides the largest trans-shipping point in the localspace, with docking facilities for 2000 ships, enclosed repair facilities for ships as long as 2000 m, 40 robotic cargo handlers that can strip a 500 container ship of its containers, sort them by localspace destination, and reload the ship in less than 8 hours. With a huge transient population, Junction Habitat has sector-renowned theatres, art galleries, restaraunts and brothels; as well as flop-houses. Citizenship is by share ownership. A share of Junction stock entitles its owner to access to life-support, medical care, education, as well as a share of the profit generated by the docks, cargo handling and cross-system traffic tariff. (Typically around $20,000/yr.) Children born to share holders are issued a share of their own, held in trust. Shares are tradable, inheritable, and fully transferrable. Ownership of additional shares doesn't provide additional benefits, beyond an increase share of the profits. The stations at Beta and Gamma are run similiarly, but are much smaller. The polity's population is about 100 million; 60% at Junction Habitat, 25% at Beta, 15% at Gamma. About 30,000 live in the asteroid belts, providing what local raw materials there are.

A small station in the star's asteroid belt provides the material needed for the operation of Junction. Bulk material is launched to a factory district close to Junction. The huge disatances invovled mean that it's cheaper to import material from elsewhere in the catacombs, but Junction considers the expenses as part of their security budget.
