1998 Summer Bike Trip

Update (June 10, 1998): It seems as though other plans fell through. And now I am just waiting for an OK by my boss to take 3 consecutive weeks off. If it's ok I will most likely be departing LI,NY on or about the 3rd of July.

Update (June 23, 1998): Vacation time is approved!

Purpose:

Over the past 8 years or so I have ridden my 1989 Harley Springer© approximately 65K miles, traversing 42 of the lower 48 states. The 6 states I have not yet ridden through are Michigan, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. And to have ridden the same bike through all of the lower 48 states would give me a bit of personal satisfaction.

Plan:

The tentative route is to leave NY and head west to Ohio. From there head north into Michigan and take the Mackinaw Bridge onto the northern penisula then into Wisconsin. Than across Wisconsin and Minnesota into North Dakota. Across North Dakota through Montana, Idaho, and into Washington. Across Washington to the Pacific Ocean, than south through Oregon, going as far south as the SF Bay area. From here a boring ride home east along I-80.

If time permits I may even take a ferry-liner from Seattle to Alaska (Jeneau?) so I can ride in Alaska for a couple days.

After some investigation, I found that this side trip would necessitate more time than I can afford. However, I will probably take a quick side trip up to Vancouver, BC as some folks have told me it is well worth it, and not too far north of the Seattle area.
