Jerren skipped his timeship back into realspace.  The energy pulse was there, in tight orbit around a singularity.  This close to the Big Whimper there wasn't much else than scattered black holes and random heat.

The Long Hunt was nearly over.

Dirn, The monster who had destroyed entire suns and murdered Jerren's family had fled here in his crippled timeship.  Jerren entered the hulk, ignoring the repair drones working on the shattered hull.  He followed the trail of blood to the Medbay.

As he entered, he heard the mechanical voice intone.  "And so, it begins."

Dirn rested in a docbed.  His shattered armor lay in pieces on the floor.  He wore only his cyberhelm and a white gown.

"MURDERER!"

Ten years of bottled up rage exploded in a flash of blaster fire.  When the red fog cleared, Jerren stood over the burned body of the Timecop turned bad.

He stood there alone.  His rage spent, emptyness filled him.  He unlocked Dirn's helmet to gaze at his prize.

A face, worn by years of hatred. A face, unmistakably his own.

Dirn's mocking laughter filled the halls of the derelict ship.  His own laughter.

"And so, it begins!"
