OK...my last month:

- Root Beer. I went on serious root beer kick, looking for the tastiest root beer I could find. Tried all kinds, from corporate-made to artisanal brewed. My favorites? Henry Weinhard and Thomas Kemper. Sitting outside on the deck, grilling, sipping an icy root beer from a glass bottle...damn fine. Oh, and if you have any recommendations, let me know!

- Gaming. Been working my ass off...but I'm playing a beta that I'm writing a guide for...other than that? Puzzle Quest on the bus, and that's all. I DID get a few hours of 2142 in...which never ceases to be fun.

- Travel. I'm on my way to NY this weekend for the first time since I moved out here. There for 4 days, seeing friends...and seeing my cousin Marisa get married. And on that note...

- Suit. I actually bought a suit today. No kidding. Charcoal grey pinstripe. Interesting to have a suit that fits me again.

- Grilling. I am grilling like a mad man. I have been through 4 tanks of propane so far since I got my grill about 6 weeks ago. My friends tell me I have to be snorting it or something. But the truth is that I'm really barbecuing...not just grilling the odd steak. I keep the grill on low indirect heat for 3-4 hours straight. Clearly, that uses a BIT more propane than setting it on high for 15 minutes to sear the steaks and cook 'em in 8 minutes. Although I'm doing plenty of that, too.

- Chelsea. She wants me to tell all of you that she's cute, and has a great butt. It's true on both counts. But news there? We are tentatively (almost certainly) getting married on the 31st of October. Those of you who know me know what THAT'S all about.

And I'll blog from NY!

I'm reading The Children of Men now and am enjoying it.

Root Beer: Not sure if you can get it in Seattle, but Sprecher(Milwaukee company) is really good.

I've had my root beer radar on for a long time now.

Thomas Kemper is firmly a top favorite of mine. The honey's verrry nice. If you like it in a bottle, you GOTTA try it on tap. I used to quaff the stuff from the source at Pyramid Alehouse in Berkeley. I know there's one in Seattle. Go!

(Read at your own risk: You can also get TKRB by the keg.)

I would second the Sprecher nod. I've mail ordered it from the brewery, but it's not cheap to do so. Seems to be more of a mid-northern states market. I do know you can find it in NYC.

Last but not least, I really like Natural Brew Draft Root Beer. Just had some tonight, in fact. Very nice bourbon vanilla notes.

I still have grand plans to make my own some day.

As for barbecuing, most excellent work, White. Depending on the viande du jour, try spraying it with apple juice to keep it moist and flavorful. Adding soaked pecan shells (placed in a smoker box) also adds nice flavors. Hickory makes for yummy experimentation as well. And, of course, salmon + cedar = yum.

As for everything else: bona fortuna sit semper.
