My Mom asked me if I was doing anything special for the 4th of July. I wrote back:

Nope, it was just a regular old work day here. Nothing at all to make it any different. I thought I should do _something_ to recognize it, but I didn't know where to buy any sparklers, altho I'm told you can get them. So I decided to go out for dinner. After looking all over the place, I finally found a restaurant which sells Spätzle, the southern German cheesy noodles which I like so much. Strangely, the noodles were green. I've never seen them green before. They were still very tasty.

I guess Spätzle aren't exactly a traditional American Independence Day food, but hey, I tried!
