Font Type Examples

    HTML supports every font in the fonts folder as well others in some applications. The C:\Windows\fonts folder in Win XP has 300+, and newer windows versions have even more. Be aware that ...fonts is a hidden directory
    Be aware that font type differences are reduced when using small font sizes. One soon conclude that many font types are similar enough to not offer any pratical differences. It is equally true that not everyone has an up to date system, so using a new font may not be a good idea.
    This page uses Arial for comments & labels unless stated otherwise. These comments are size 4. The examples below are size 6 for the script fonts, and 5 for almost everything else; exceptions are noted.
    Almost everything here uses a proportional font, where each letter's width varies. These fonts look more natural and are easier to read. Some linear fonts are included here as a separate category. Linear font characters and spaces all have the same width. As such, they are good for simple tables where spaces are used for alignment. Linear fonts have less room for creativity, so there are fewer of them.
    The first item shown here is the default, followed by font categories.
