April 28, 1996

Robin, Alex and I got together tonight and read scenes from the script with each other, switching off roles and trying to get a handle on the performances we want. Boy, did I ever acquire a new respect for actors. Yesterday I was thinking that less emotion in the performances would be better; today I think that you can't even get an acceptable line reading without a lot of emotional conviction. Though our acting sucked big time, we learned a lot about the characters with this exercise, and I think I'm better prepared to direct tomorrow's auditions.

I'm near the end of the storyboarding, but it's unlikely that I will attain my original goal of finishing up before we go to New Orleans for Jazz Fest this Wednesday.
