As per Tony's request, I talked to Benjamin at Magno about the sound problem. He told me exactly what he told Tony: that applicator fluid probably ran low at the end of the reel two sound track. I called Tony back: he seems unwilling to accept this theory, given that the sound on that part of the film had screwed up on earlier prints as well. He offered to make a test of the last five minutes of the reel, to see if a clean sound track was possible. I agreed to this, though I would rather have gone for an entirely new print of the second reel.
