Making the Connection

The Jewish Rose of Texas is the only Rose for me

Part of the reason I came to Houston at all was to see my cousin Rose, who is 88. Her mother Bluma was my grandmother's first cousin. Rose has a ton of family photos and is a vibrant, dynamic woman who plays the piano and is very involved in helping out at a senior citizen's home (where her mother spent 13 years of her life).

Between Rose and her husband, they have 20 grandchildren, and their photos are everywhere. Rose also has wonderful photos of her parents and grandparents (the latter of whom never came to the U.S.). It's a genealogist's dream to find all of someone's documents in an album with their photos.

Being a bit of an old lady myself, I wound up taking a delighful nap after a drive around the area with Sol. That night, we met up with my cousins from Israel, who are living in Houston for a year while he is on sabbatical. We went to Fadi's, a Middle Eastern restaurant, for dinner, along with Rose's son and two of her grandsons.
