Bauhaus in Tel Aviv
The White City is a bit faded

The
original city plan for Tel Aviv comprised smaller streets and low-rise
buildings, usually no more than four storeys tall. The old part of Tel Aviv,
where my hotel on Ben Yehuda is, is in such an area of Bauhaus buildings.
There's even a Bauhaus center, where I got some nice books for the architecture
fiends in my life. A lot of the buildings have seen better days. Architecture in
this part of Tel Aviv is rather homogenous. Also, in Jerusalem, zoning demands
sandstone on most buildings. This prevents some out of place atrocities but also
limits the landscape. There are skyscrapers in Tel Aviv, though, and the tallest
building in Israel is in Ramat Gan, a big suburb of Tel Aviv where Nurit and
Yoni live."
