you don't notice where your web site is hosted until it matters

I live in Berkeley, California. This web page is hosted on a server in New York City. Which means it was shut down along with the rest of New York City for the past two days. I'd like to apologize to the people who tried to send me email at my panix address and it didn't get through.

And here's a classic op-ed rant by Greg Palast about how this was all caused by deregulation and corporate fraud. I'd like to hear from the other side of the argument, but I'm not finding one at present; suggestions appreciated.
