In total, I spent 8 days driving 2450 miles (the GPS recorded 2407, but it will read low in corners) ranging from 0 to 7800 feet in elevation. I used around 90 gallons of gasoline to make the trip, averaging just over 27 miles to each gallon. Not bad considering that there wasn’t a lot of easy miles.

  • Day 1 - Pullman to Hillsboro Oregon.
  • Day 2 - Hillsboro to Tillamook, then south on 101 to Cape Blanco
  • Day 3 - Cape Blanco to Crescent City, then back into Oregon to Oregon Caves before returning to Crescent City and sleeping under the Redwoods
  • Day 4 - Continue south on 101, then the famed California Highway 1 south to Bodega Bay and Petaluma.
  • Return Day 1 - A freeway day, north on I-5 to just south of Mt Shasta, then local roads around the volcano, sleeping in the Lava Beds National Monument
  • Return Day 2 - Crater Lake, Pumice Butte, and a sleep just outside Madras
  • Return Day 3 - Northestern Oregon from Madras to Joseph
  • Return Day 4 - Quick drive home from Joseph along the Rattlesnake Grade

Along the way, I saw the Oregon and California Coast, the giant Redwoods, Oregon Caves, the Lava Beds National Monument, Crater Lake and took pictures as I went. Some pictures haven’t made it to flickr:
