I'm spending a lot of time these days converting an undocumented pile of receipts into a film budget, for my tax return. We were supposed to be keeping records as we went along, but that was one of the first tidy little plans to be thrown off the lifeboat. On the bright side, there's a little-known tax code that allows filmmaking expenses to be written off over a three-year period, even if the film makes no profit. So I don't have to pay any taxes this year.
