5 May 1999: The Worst Defense Is a Sick Offense

This week the defense attorney for Justin Volpe, the police officer accused of brutalizing and sodomizing Abner Louima with a stick (a broom handle) in August 1997, this week introduced as part of the defense the idea that Abner Louima's horrific injuries to his rectum, colon, and bladder were in some way "consensual" injuries.

Excuse my language, but who the fuck would consent to that sort of injury? Plus, getting some of one's own teeth knocked out by that same stick?

What Volpe's lawyer is doing is the worst kind of gay-baiting. This idea that gay people are sick and willing to consent to any sort of sexual activity. Of course, the major media outlets ignored the homophobic aspects of this "defense" and it took a press conference spurred on by the AVP and other gay officials to press the disgusting nature of this sort of "allegation."

It's 1999 and basically, this is the only sort of "defense" this attorney can dream up, because things are looking pretty bleak for Volpe.
