September 28-October 1, Camping Trip, Assateague Island National Seashore, Assateague MD
Camp behind the dunes on this beautiful barrier island off the coast of Maryland. Wonderful wild ponies share the island with people! We have reserved an oceanside group site for the weekend. Vehicles can drive up near the site, unload, and park close by. There is a boardwalk to access the site. We can also meet at the canoe/kayak rental lot, and paddle on the calm bay side of the island. This trip is a longer drive than most. Join us for the long weekend! Cold showers and chemical toilets in the national park, hot showers in the adjacent state park. $15 entrance fee per vehicle. To arrange carpooling, contact a trip leader ASAP.

There are great views from the top of Sunrise Mountain and in the Tillman Ravine Natural Area. This beautiful area includes a portion of the Kittatinny Ridge, and is also near High Point State Park and the Delaware River. Flush toilets and hot showers. NO CALLS BEFORE FRIDAY OCTOBER 5.

November 16-18, Cabin Trip, Nockamixon State Park, Quakertown PA
An eight-person electric-heated, furnished cabin will be our home base for the weekend. Within the state park, you can fish or boat in the 1,450-acre lake, ride a horse or a bike, hike, or just relax with a book or play board games. You'll need to bring pots and pans, kitchen utensils and bedding. The cabin is heated and has a bathroom with a hot shower.

The Leonids meteor shower starts late on Friday night and continues into the wee hours of Saturday morning. If the weather cooperates, we should get quite a show. The Leonids are usually the best meteor shower of the year. For more information about the Leonids, go to http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/earthskys-meteor-shower-guide and scroll down to November 16-17, 2012.

Sunday, November 25, Day Trip, Walkway Over the Hudson, Upstate NY
We will cross the big river by way of the Walkway over the Hudson State Historic Park, and then the Mid-Hudson Bridge, to complete the 3.6 mile Walkway Loop Trail. The Walkway bridge is a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. (The moderately fit can add a 2.5 mile hike to the day in the adjacent Fanny Reese State Park) After the walk or hike, you can join us for dinner at the River Station Restaurant. The upstairs dining room boasts magnificent views of the bridges and Hudson River. We will meet at the restaurant, where a shuttle to the walkway entrance will be provided.
