Campers' Group Bulletin - Fall 1996

Campers' Group Bulletin - Fall 1996

Summer is ending, but that doesn't mean you have to stop going outdoors. The Fall has its own special beauty, as the leaves turn orange, red and yellow, and the animals fatten up for Winter. Early Fall is one of the best times of year to camp, when the mosquitoes and people with loud radios are dormant.

The last scheduled camping trip of the season is over Columbus Day weekend. In November, our cabin weekends begin. The first one, to Tyler Hostel, is just after Halloween, but don't let that spook you.

The last event listed is the cabin trip to Frost Valley YMCA in January. If you haven't cross-country skied before, Frost Valley is a great place to learn--there are easy trails, and ski rentals are included as part of the package. Frost Valley also has intermediate and advanced trails for more experienced skiiers. I'll look for you on the trail.

To reserve a space on a trip, call its leaders Sunday to Wednesday of the previous week, before 10 PM. (For Frost Valley, you can mail a check to reserve a space.) If you need information earlier than the date listed in the trip description, call David Levner at 718-897-1448.

To go on a camping or cabin trip, you must be a Campers' Group member. You can mail us your dues or pay at the site. One year's membership costs $12 for an individual or $18 for a family. (We accept checks made out to Campers' Group.) Send dues to David Levner, 63-36 98th Place, Apt. 5J, Rego Park, NY 11374.

Stables nearby rent horses. We'll celebrate Halloween Saturday night. $14/night. The hostel is well-heated, has a complete kitchen, a fireplace, flush toilets and hot showers. NO CALLS BEFORE OCTOBER 27.
