Panix Shell Services: Prices

Panix has been providing Internet connections since 1989. In the years since then, we've developed a reputation for technical know-how, reliability and customer service unmatched by today's vast and impersonal Internet providers. Our shell accounts are still only $10/month ($100/year prepaid), just what they were back then. We do have some add-ons at extra cost, but a lot of our most useful features are included in the shell account.

Full shell accounts allow you to access the Internet through the Panix shell hosts; they do not put your home computer directly on the Internet, or give you access to web sites using graphical browsers. For that, you need PPP. (Basic accounts do not include Internet access from the Panix shell hosts.)
Panix provides Internet connectivity at all speeds, from dialup to T3. Our dialup accounts include a full shell account.

Full Shell, Remote Login Only:  ("No-dial")
$10/month ($100/year prepaid) No dialup access at all;  standard outbound Internet functions are available.
Limited Shell with Direct Dial:  ("Basic")
$10/month ($100/year prepaid) Limited shell includes dialup in the NYC area only,
and does not include interactive Internet functions (outbound FTP, telnet, ssh, rlogin, etc.)
Full Shell with Direct Dial:  ("Inet")
$17.50/month ($175/year prepaid) Full shell with Direct Dial includes National Dialup as well as local dialup and all the features of "Full (no-dial) shell"
PPP Dialup
$32.50/month ($325/year prepaid) PPP Dialup includes all the features of Inet as well as access to the Internet via web browsers, mail clients, and other Internet features.

All Panix shell services can be accessed from anywhere on the Internet via telnet, ftp, ssh, and the like. Direct Dial adds dialup capability, through a terminal emulator program. PPP includes dialup directly to the web. All such access is unmetered.

All Panix accounts are subject to the terms and restrictions found in The Panix Rules of Use. Some accounts and features may be subject to additional restrictions; see The Panix Policies page for details.
