Basic ADSL Configuration
All current lines are connected via PPPoE, and the only configuration information you should need is your PPPoE username and password.
For "legacy" lines transferred from Focal, we retain the following setup information:
You will need to enter the static configuration manually into your TCP/IP properties (or WAN properties if you have a router). Settings are as follows:
- Your IP address: We let you know your IP address when your service is turned up. If you didn't get it, let us know and we'll send it to you.
- Your gateway and subnet mask: the Panix ADSL gateway (router) is 166.84.167.1. Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
- Name server addresses: Use 198.7.0.5 and 166.84.67.2.
- WINS: If you're using a Windows PC hooked directly to the ADSL modem, make sure you disable WINS resolution in the TCP/IP properties.
- Router users only: Make sure you set the WAN side to "static" or "manual" configuration, with all login/password features disabled. Also, the LAN settings only affect your computers' connection to the router, and can be left on whatever settings work.
If you follow these tips and need more help, just write or call. We don't provide tech support for router setups, but we can usually give you a few pointers regardless.
