Thunderbird (for Windows or Mac)
From Thunderbird's opening screen, select "Create a new account".
This will bring up the first Mail Account Setup window:
Fill out the spaces with the information appropriate to your account, and click "Continue".
On the next window, Thunderbird will detect and display the server settings (this requires that you be online):
The incoming mailserver is "mail.panix.com", and uses IMAP; Security is optional (but strongly recommended), and should be "STARTTLS" if used. The outgoing mailserver is also "mail.panix.com"; security is "SSL/TLS".
If Thunderbird has produced settings which differ from the above, click the "Edit" button and make changes where appropriate. Otherwise, click "Create Account".
This will return you to the opening screen. Click "View settings for this account"
and click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the left-hand menu. Make
sure that under "Security and Authentication", you have "Use name
and password" checked.

You're done!
