
The following are server names which are accessible from within or outside the Panix network:
UNIX Shell shell.panix.com (port 23 for telnet, 22 for SSH)
(Note: SSH users should create separate hostkeys for
panix1.panix.com, panix2.panix.com, and panix3.panix.com)
Mail (POP) server mail.panix.com (port 110)
Secure POP server mail.panix.com (port 995)
Mail (SMTP) server mail.panix.com (port 25 or 2525)
Mail (IMAP) server mail.panix.com (port 143)
Secure IMAP server mail.panix.com (port 993)
Secure SMTP server mail.panix.com (port 465)
News (NNTP) server news.panix.com
Time (NTP) server timeserver.panix.com

Special instructions apply to use of SMTP servers from outside our network.
These instructions apply to Panix PPP accounts. Some of the server information is different if you are accessing our servers from other Internet providers.
Either way, your PPP dialer should be able to get your IP address from the server, automatically. Most dialers have a checkbox or setting for "obtain automatically"; if yours doesn't, try leaving the IP address field blank, or try entering "0.0.0.0" there.
NOTE: If we've told you to specify your gateway address in the past, please be aware that our system has changed since those days. Our dialup numbers now use several different gateways, and it's best to let the server tell your computer which one it's using if at all possible.
Some older programs may require that you enter nameserver addresses and other data. You may need to upgrade your PPP software if this is the case, since Panix's dialup services require dynamic assignment of nameserver addresses.
