Pharmacist Troubles

On Monday, I had a regular appointment with our doctor, and mentioned that I had a tick bite on the prior Tuesday, and that since I had Lyme disease before (1992), and actually ended up in the hospital with Lyme Carditis.

Since the standard test would show positive, it tests for the antibody whether or not I had it, so the Dr. S. prescribed a prophylactic antibiotic regime.

The standard drug for this is something in the Tetracycline family, most commonly Doxycycline, which he prescribed, and I filled at the CVS near our house.

It’s a mile away, and open 24 hours, but we have never been too satisfied with the service.

In this case, they filled the prescription in ½ hour while I got some blood tests, and filled it, no muss, no fuss ……… Or so it seemed.

The instructions on the label called for taking the pills at least two hours after, or one hour before, eating; i.e. on an empty stomach.

So, rolling the Wiki:

It should be taken with a full glass of water, after food, and patients should be upright for at least 30 minutes after administration to prevent irritation of the esophagus and stomach. Failure to take food prior to ingesting Doxycycline may induce vomiting.

eHow:

Take doxycycline with food or following a meal. If you have taken doxycycline on an empty stomach before and gotten away with it, the next time may be different. Doxycycline induced nausea is quite unpleasant and more serious stomach irritation can occur.

Also, no note on the label not to take it before bed, nor to avoid sunlight and UV, though Dr. S. told me that last part.

I’ve been wondering who the hell has been doing the flaming sword dance in my stomach for the past few days.

I Really Want to Know the Whole Back-Story On This

According to the associated article, “As firefighters cleaned up the scene late this morning, Kali Burns, who lives next door, ran up and down the street dressed in a gorilla suit and caught the attention of some firefighters. Burns said his friends dared him to put the costume on, so he did. He said he only wanted to ‘cheer everybody up.'”

I dunno, I think that there is something deeper involved.

You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!

Osama, Take Me Now!

Just when you thought that the fashion industry in general, and the makers of perfume in particular, could not get any more insane, they give us Vulva Original, a vagina scented perfume.

No, this is not a joke, it’s real, complete with a web site featuring a video which, for lack of a better term, climaxes in a man sniffing a bicycle seat.

Whiskey tango foxtrot?

You know, the supposition that certain backward religious nut-jobs make that our society is evil, corrupt, and irredeemably icky is becoming more and more plausible.

Gotta love the Grauniad*

Well, we now have a report that Labor is going to campaign on reports that Gordon Brown is violent and abusive with people:

In an audacious new election strategy, Labour is set to embrace Gordon Brown’s reputation for anger and physical aggression, presenting the prime minister as a hard man, unafraid of confrontation, who is willing to take on David Cameron in “a bare-knuckle fistfight for the future of Britain”, the Guardian has learned.

Following months of allegations about Brown’s explosive outbursts and bullying, Downing Street will seize the initiative this week with a national billboard campaign portraying him as “a sort of Dirty Harry figure”, in the words of a senior aide. One poster shows a glowering Brown alongside the caption “Step outside, posh boy,” while another asks “Do you want some of this?”

Brown aides had worried that his reputation for volatility might torpedo Labour’s hopes of re-election, but recent internal polls suggest that, on the contrary, stories of Brown’s testosterone-fuelled eruptions have been almost entirely responsible for a recent recovery in the party’s popularity. As a result, the aide said, Labour was “going all in”, staking the election on the hope that voters will be drawn to an alpha-male personality who “is prepared to pummel, punch or even headbutt the British economy into a new era of jobs and prosperity”.

………

It’s not real, but it should be, and Barack Obama might want to consider a similar course of action.

*According to the Wiki, The Guardian, formerly the Manchester Guardian in the UK. It’s nicknamed the Grauniad because of its penchant for typographical errors, “The nickname The Grauniad for the paper originated with the satirical magazine Private Eye. It came about because of its reputation for frequent and sometimes unintentionally amusing typographical errors, hence the popular myth that the paper once misspelled its own name on the page one masthead as The Gaurdian, though many recall the more inventive The Grauniad.”

Best Apology Ever!

Writer J.D. Shapiro, apologizing for being the 1st script writer for Battlefield Earth.

Seriously, I cannot do justice to this, not can I provide excerpts that do justice, but here is a sample:

During my Scientology research, I met an employee who I instantly had a crush on. She was kind of a priestess, and had dedicated her life to working for the church by becoming a Sea Org member. She said that she signed a billion-year contract. I said, “What! Really?” She said she got paid a small stipend of $50 a week, to which I said, “Can you get an advance on the billion years, like say, a mere $500,000?” And then she said as a Sea Org member, you can’t have sex unless you’re married. I asked her if she was married. She said yes. So I said, “Great! That means we can have sex!”

It is simply exquisite!

Well, Both of You are Going to Get More of My Bloggy Goodness

The client firm, which is doing a maintenance manual for a Post Office mail sorter, did not get a bridge contract for the next stage of the contract, so they let the contractors go today, so as soon as the Passover Yom Tovim* are over, I back to calling around for a job.

Damn.

Sometimes life sucks.

*Some Jewish holidays, like Purim and Hanukah, come from somewhere other than Torah, and so there are few, if any restrictions on what you are supposed to do, while others, like Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, are mentioned in Torah, and so activities are restricted by Jewish law, much in the same way that they are for Shabbat, where “work” (long story) is forbidden. (It’s marginally more lenient). Days 1, 2, 7, and 8 of Passover are Yom Tovim outside of Israel (longer story), and so, out of respect for my wife, and her mother, who will be visiting, I won’t be online those days.

For Corporate Stress Relief

Apply to the………

I was in the drug store, and walked by where they have all those odd things that you see on afternoon TV, and saw the Thera Pen Massager.

It’s a pen with a rubber cap on the end, and when pressure is applied, it vibrates, like, you know, a vibrator.

I can see it being used for stress relief, but I kind of figure that the illustrations shown here don’t refer to where it might be more likely used.

BTW, if someone asks to borrow your pen, tell them to wash it before they return it.

Sharon Osbourne Has Something to Get off Her Chest

She is selling her breast implants on eBay:

Unsatisfied with the result of her breast augmentation procedure, Sharon Osbourne recently revealed that she plans to sell the breast implants online once they are removed. Talking to Britain’s New! Magazine, the judge of “America’s Got Talent” admitted that she’s thinking of putting them up for sale on eBay.

“I wish I had never had my breasts done. They have put these bloody great bags in that are too ****ing round. It is like [having] a waterbed on your chest. I hate my [breasts],” the wife of Ozzy Osbourne first pointed out why she was left disappointed. She continued to say, “I want to have the bags taken out – then I will put them on eBay.”

Ummm……I got nothing here……Too weird for me to pull out any additional humor……

It Could Be Worse, She Could Have Been Driving a Toyota Prius

Ummm….There are so many jokes here, but I’ll just note that since she’s shaved, we’ll never know if the carpet matches the drapes:

A Florida Highway Patrol officer has admitted his incredulity at a woman who pranged her car while shaving her privates.

Megan Mariah Barnes, 37, was driving her Thunderbird in Key West last week when she piled into the back of a Chevrolet pickup carrying four people. Or rather, although she was in the driver’s seat, it was actually her ex-hubby Charles Judy who was holding the wheel while she tidied herself up down below.

A Highway Patrol spokesman explained that the pair drove on for about a kilometre down the road before pulling the old driver/passenger switcheroo – unsurprising since Barnes was the day before “convicted and sentenced to nine months of probation for DUI and driving with a suspended licence”, deprived of her licence for five years and “ordered to get her car impounded”.

Just when I think that things can’t get any weirder, the weird turn pro.

Light Posting for the Foreseeable Future

Which means 2-5 posts a day, as opposed to the 8-11 a day that I have been doing.

I got a job. It’s not engineering, it a contract as a tech writer, and it’s near the airport, so I can get there quickly.

I will be working on documention for US Government equipment, and as per my policy, I will leave it there, because if I don’t talk about the specifics of my job, I won’t say anything that should be proprietary, or anything that would embarrass the client.

So while I may make generic comments about how busy I am, or make a note about, for example, how neat the 3D printer is, I won’t generally comment on the business of the client.

I’m leaving this on the top of the page until Wednesday evening, so scroll down for newer posts.

Napoleon Bonaparte is Smiling

The French will be taking control of the port of Dover.

Well, it’s not really the French, it’s the Nord-pas-de-Calais regional council, which will be assuming control as a part of a privatization scheme:

A plan to privatise the government-owned Port of Dover has provoked “outrage”, not least because the French are front-runners to take control of the facility.

According to the Daily Mail, the port needs money to fund an expansion plan, and selling it off could net £350m for our cash-strapped government. The harbour board expects to receive the go-ahead for the “voluntary privatisation”, which will likely see Nord-pas-de-Calais regional council, which also owns Calais, adding Dover to its roster of ports.

Chief exec Bob Goldfield explained: “The time is right for the voluntary privatisation of Dover. We want to invest around £400m on a second terminal and need to invest in the existing terminal, but are unable to because of public sector borrowing constraints. We want to throw off the shackles.”

I generally oppose privatization, even if it isn’t the French taking over Dover, and the justification, about avoiding “public sector borrowing constraints,” sounds to me like a recipe for a future bankruptcy and taxpayer bailout.

“Throwing off shackles,” in a finance context generally means, “Engaging in dodgy behavior.”

But still the short Frenchman is up there, or down there, having a good chuckle.
